These plates are hand made from slices of branches or trunks of petrified wood. Each plate is is polished to the top & sides of the slice resulting in wonderful patterns and variations. These make wonderful statement pieces for serving or simply enjoy as a decorative piece.
Product Details:  Hand-made petrified wood platter from a trunk slice featuring stunning abstract mineralisation patterns. Polished to top and sides faces (base is un-polished). Each plate has a shallow dish form of approximately 1cm deep. The side-on photograph is indicative-only of the side profile. Petrified wood is relatively brittle and does not enjoy being dropped on hard surfaces. Do not expose to extreme heat if using as a serving item.

About Petrified Wood AKA Fossil Wood: Most petrified wood results from ancient forests that have been buried beneath deep layers of muddy ash from extreme volcanic eruptions. The wood lies trapped in this virtually oxygen-free environment (preventing decay) for millennia and gradually the organic material is replaced with minerals that echo the form of the original tree in exquisite detail. Â Petrified wood can range in age anywhere from 250 million years old to several thousand years of age - the age of these pieces is unknown.
